For most smart homes, a reliable connection is more important than raw speed. A minimum of 25 Mbps is sufficient for basic automation, but if you're streaming 4K video, running security cameras, or have many devices, aim for at least 100 to 300 Mbps. For larger homes, a gigabit connection is ideal.
Many core smart home functions powered by Control4 continue to work locally even if the internet is down. However, remote access, voice commands via the cloud, and certain third-party integrations may be limited until the connection is restored.
A professionally installed Wi-Fi system and/or enterprise-grade network can blanket your home in consistent coverage. Additionally, placing access points strategically and avoiding signal interference ensures your devices stay connected everywhere.
Not if your network is designed properly. A dedicated smart home network or VLAN, quality hardware, and sufficient bandwidth allocation will keep things running smoothly, even with hundreds of connected devices.
